Yellowstone Historic Center Receives $10,000 Grant for Construction of Yellowstone Shortline Trail

Project is one of eleven awardees in the country of the highly competitive Rails-to-Trails Conservancy’s 2021 Trail Grant Program totaling $145,000

West Yellowstone, MT—The Yellowstone Historic Center has received a $10,000 grant from the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy 2021 Trail Grant Program.

The RTC Trail Grant program awarded $145,000 in total to fill critical trail gaps, with an emphasis on regional and community development goals. Among the awards included $60,000 in Doppelt Family Trail Development Fund Grants to bring forward the vision for the cross-country Great American Rail-Trail, a developing 3,700-mile trail that connects across 12 states between Washington, D.C., and Washington State.

The Yellowstone Historic Center was a winner of the Doppelt Family Trail Development Grant. The Doppelt Family Trail Development Fund Grants honor the legacy of the late rail-trail philanthropist, Jeffrey L. Doppelt, who passed away from COVID-19 in 2020. A member of RTC for over 25 years, Jeff invested over $800,000 in the nation’s rail-trails benefiting more than 40 projects nationwide.

The funds received by the Yellowstone Historic Center will go towards construction of the Yellowstone Shortline Trail. This trail will see the conversion of a 9-mile stretch of abandoned railway into a multi-use path from West Yellowstone to the Montana-Idaho border. The Doppelt Fund award has already played a role in the Shortline’s competitiveness in securing a larger grant from the Great American Outdoors Act.

The Yellowstone Shortline Trail is honored to have been recognized by the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, the nation’s largest trails organization dedicated to building a nation connected by trails, reimagining public spaces to create safe ways for everyone to walk, bike and be active outdoors.
